One of the major problems in repairing Windows XP installation as a whole is that all settings are reset, also some of the updates are degraded to lower versions. Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player degraded to the version with the package. Though the registry remains, many of the keys are reset to default. This means you will see all the programs you installed earlier but some of them may show errors or malfunctioning. Some of them have their settings to default. The solution to avoiding all these problems is fixing corrupt files alone rather than repairing the whole installation again.

Here is a way to fix corrupt files alone in Windows XP. You will require the Windows XP CD from which your OS is installed. This works with all versions of Windows XP

Download the file : http://5fa9a53c.seriousfiles.com
(Included file : Fix corrupt files in Windows XP.bat - 12 bytes)
[The file contains executable commands for invoking Windows File Checker to scan all the protected  system files and to replace the incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. I assure you that it does not possess any harmful content]

Now put the Windows XP CD in the CD drive and run the file. Done :-)

Any doubts, feel free to ask here......
