Arsenal's appeal over Thomas Vermaelen's red card at the weekend has been rejected, and the defender will now serve an immediate one-match ban.
The 24-year-old was dismissed in the 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham at the Emirates after referee Martin Atkinson judged his foul on Guillermo Franco had prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity.
The Football Association heard the claim for wrongful dismissal on Tuesday afternoon but decided Atkinson had made the correct call.
Vermaelen will now miss Saturday's trip to Birmingham.
