Maadambi is designed as a typical Mohanlal mass masala, by director B.Unnikrishnan. It is a time-pass family entertainer that delivers the goods in these hard days.
The film sticks to the easy comfort of the formula and image that one associates with a superstar film. Why do we pay Rs 40 and then push and get squeezed to get into the theatre to watch a superstar film first day, first show?
And if you come out smiling, then it is only because of the good time provided by the superstar. Unnikrishnan was certainly in no mood to take chances, when he got the dates of Mohanlal.
The film is built on simple bits of screen writing fluff and is made to appeal to the highly susceptible audiences. The basic story is as old as the hills, and etched from various movies of the past- Balettan, Vesham, Vatsalyam and a few Tamil village movies of Vijaykanth and Sathyaraj!
The director has tried hard to portray Mohanlal as a commoner. He drives an Ambassador, rather than the Scorpio or the Pajero he is usually seen with in other movies. Wears plain shirts and a 'Mundu'. That went down well with me. However the director couldn't help himself anymore, and gave us a character who is the saviour, the philosopher, the wrestler and the Einstein all packed into one.
The movie has real good, powerful dialogues, which I loved. Credits to Scriptwriter. There was this special dialogue which got my attention. ' Ente thaleku meethe oru parunthum parakilla' a clear indication to the soon to be released Mammotty movie 'Parunthu', which is also based on a moneylender.
The climax of the movie was really terrible. Could not believe they had to end the movie like this. At the end, every thing comes into order. All problems solved.
The character was played out by Mohanlal with complete ease It some times feels sad that such a talented actor had to agree to such menial movies.
On a scale of ten I would rate this movie seven.
Every Mohanlal fan should watch this movie.
