Whether dropping vice or picking up virtue, a New Year's resolution is a good incentive for a positive change in life. 2010 is upon us and if you're like me, before the clock strikes 12:00 a.m. on January 1st, you'll look back over the past year and reflect on the changes you want or need to make, to become a better person, and you will make a few New Year's resolutions. During the course of the New Year you will end up thinking about them, but that's about the extent of it. So, the question is, do you make resolution's knowing full well you won't keep them, do you try to push yourself a little harder to resolve to follow through on accomplishing this important pledge to yourself or do you just commend and pat the people on the back that are strong enough to keep the promises they made for themselves and let them know how proud you are of them?
I haven't decided yet whether I'll put myself through making resolutions this year, but I will be thinking about it. It's not that any of my resolutions were ever unreasonable or unattainable, but I either put them off until tomorrow, which of course never came, or I decided I was just too busy to devote time to them. The problem is these changes that I need to make will make my life so much more rewarding, so I NEED to focus on them and make them a priority in my life - I deserve it and I believe so do you.
Here are some New Year's Resolutions for you to think about . . .
· Spend more time with family and friends - eat together at least once a week.
· Get a better job - while you still have a job is a great time to look for something you would rather do.
· Start exercising - start by walking around the block everyday.
· Reduce Stress - simplify your life and drop the things that don't add value to your life.
· Lose weight - Don't finish your plate, eat smaller portions and try to stay away from fast foods on the go.
· Quit smoking - you'll also save money this way.
· Quit drinking - support groups are available to help you with this.
· Take a trip - leave your cell phone and your laptop at home and enjoy.
· Enjoy life more - take time out for yourself - you deserve it.
· Get out of debt - pay a little more on your credit cards each month
· Learn something new - taking night courses will help you make a change in your career that you may be needing or improve your skills and make you a more valuable employee.
· Save money - even if it's just a few dollars or quarters a week. Put it in a jar or have it taken out of your pay check. 401(k)'s or IRA's are an excellent way to save for your retirement and you hardly miss the money and some companies still contribute to 401(k)'s which is a bonus.
· Help others - volunteer once a month, quarter or year. It's such a rewarding experience and adds meaning to your life.
· Get organized - reduce the clutter in your life and simplify it will help ease stress.
· Follow your passion - what makes you happy and are you finding time for that passion.
Regardless if you decide to set a New Year's resolution or not, take time to look at your life for a few moments. Are you happy? Do you have a balanced life? Do you like who you are? Do you live a stressful life? Keep in mind that stress leads to heart disease, diabetes, depression and more illnesses in general. Are you spending more time on others than yourself? The more you focus on others at the expense of yourself, the more likely you are to become burned out, bitter, and possibly even resentful. Look at “me” time as a priority. You need to take care of yourself before you can care for anyone else. You’ll find your efficiency level going up dramatically because you have taken a timeout.
I hope the coming year is a good one for you - a time of good heath, love, inspiration, discovery and happiness and all the things that make life worthwhile.
Happy New Year my friends!
The true meaning of Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ and the act of love for our fellow man. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not parish but have eternal life." John 3:16-17. Christmas is a joyous time! It is a time of giving. It is a time of fellowship and devotion.
It is sad that Christmas is more a commercial enterprise than a religious observance. For most people, Jesus isn’t the reason for the season, buying and receiving consumer goods is.
Every year we have a mad rush to get to the stores first to buy whatever hot items are on sale. I believe it was last year when an employee at a Wal-Mart died and a woman miscarried when the doors to the store opened. The man that died was trampled when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors in a mad rush. You hear about fights breaking out in parking lots when someone took a spot that another was waiting for. People are known to fight for a popular gift if it's the last item on the shelf. Tempers flare as people prepare for Christmas, but yet the true meaning of Christmas should be about loving our fellow man--not hurting them. Christmas is not the time for impressing people. It is not the time to buy the hottest items. It is not the time to run someone over to get to the item before they do or steal it out of their hands just because you are stronger. This is the time to reflect on your life, to honor Jesus for whom this holiday was named.
Why don't we sit back, relax and find out what Christmas should mean to us. According to the Bible, the first Christmas angel appeared to Mary and told her that she would have a son called Jesus. Joseph was also visited by a Christmas angel who told him what his role in this world-changing event would be. When the Child was born, angels sang, a bright star lit up the eastern sky, and shepherds followed that star and came to see baby Jesus. They gave Him valuable and precious gifts to honor a king. Why would they do this? Because the Child was to be our Savior, Jesus the Christ. We have lost track of the most precious reason for this season. Perhaps this year we could stop and remember why we are actually celebrating Christmas. For just one precious bit of time, maybe we could take the time to thank the Lord for what He has done for us because it really is HIS birthday. Just one brief moment to tell Him we love Him since the season is all about LOVE and PEACE.
Have you ever wondered what the differences you made during your life are and how many lives you have touched? Perhaps if we think about this, at least during Christmas, we would all become better human beings and we would remember the reason for the season and carry it through the year.
Share your love with others and remember the reason for celebrating Christmas. Give thanks for the birth of Christ our Lord and love your fellow man. May the spirit of Christmas be in your heart and soul and carry you through any adversities that are in your life. Happy Birthday Jesus and Merry Christmas my readers, friends and family - I love you one and all!
Just wanted to share my message for the new year. It goes like this...
Whatever you do, give your best shot and follow your conscience. Never hurt anyone to get even an inch forward. That inch would result in a feet backwards when you move further. Think positive, you can't be beaten unless your mind says you are beaten. Never give up even if you are thrashed. It is just an oppurtunity to come back and prove yourself. Don't believe in fortune. Let the guy who reads your fortune go to sleep. Your path always have obstacles. Without them life would be a desert. You can either try to reach an oasis and feel safe for the time being or you can go forward till you find the sea. When you go forward from oasis, it would be desert again but believe it is a step closer to sea. The desert you started from is different from one you reached because this time you have the experience of being in desert as well as in oasis once. Even if you find oasis again, still go forward till sea. Your path would help the next man following you to the sea. Never will you die again because when you reach the sea, you will reach the heart of many who aspire to reach the sea. Even if you reached the sea you can still go for the horizon.
Believe this is your year to reach the horizon.
I wish you...
31536000 seconds of JOY
525600 minutes of GOOD LUCK
